Grape 65% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon

Ageing | : 12-month stave oak barrels – 30% new oak

Tasting Notes | 2016 Ferran is medium garnet-purple colored and reveals beautiful red and black cherries, warm plums and mulberries scents with an earthy undercurrent and a waft of charcuterie. Medium-bodied, it has a wonderfully plush palate with bags of earth-laced fruit and a long minerally finish.

Pairing |Château Ferran wines pair with each other generally quite well with dishes of beef, lamb or game (deer, venison) such as recipes of beef enchilladas au gratin, rack of lamb in a crust of herbs and seeds with thyme juice and... or casserons in the country style.

ABOUT THE CHÂTEAU

Since Robert de Ferran, solicitor at the Bordeaux Parliament, who gave his name to this exceptional vineyard, and
Montesquieu, philosopher winegrower, owner of the domaine in the 18th century, this terroir has always produced red and white
wines which were then known as “Premiers graves Martillac”
The property has belonged to an old Bordelais family since 1880, and today the descendants of Joseph Beraud-Sudreau, Philippe
and Ghislane Lacoste, have been managing the estate since 1999.
A lot of work has been done in recent years to restructure the vineyard and renovate the cellars which has quickly resulted in
numerous medals and good scores given by French, British and Amercian wine writers, particularly during the futures tastings.
The work in the vineyard: debudding, deleafing, green harvest, hand picking parcel by parcel, sorting at the vineyard or in the
cellars, enables the selection and assembling of the best batches during the élevage for the Château Ferran, and the blending of a
more supple second wine under the name of Château de Belloc.Current Owner

Soils: : Miocene clay-limestone croups slightly gravelly

Farming: Sustainable viticulture, ploughing or a grass crop favoured, simple or double Guyot pruning.  Harvest is plot by plot selection, with 2 consecutive sorting, (By hand and by density.) In 2016 the château was certified in the Environmental Management System Certification of Bordeaux wines.
