Tasting Notes | Medium-bodied, with smoke, thyme, mint and bright red fruits on the nose, the wine is medium bodied, fresh, crisp and just a tiny bit herbal in the finish, giving you a classic Pauillac profile.

Pairing | Rack of lamb with porcini mushrooms. Slow cooked leg of lamb with broad beans. Beef tenderloin with mushrooms.

Drinking | 2020-2040  Decanter, or open the bottle 2 hours before drinking.

ABOUT THE CHÂTEAU

The history of the Château goes back to 1610 when the Domaine de Moussas-Bages belonged to the family of Jehan, wine merchant and owner of several estates.

In 1728, the Domaine de Moussas-Bages was bought by the Drouillard family.In 1748, Thomas Lynch, inherited by his wife, Elisabeth Drouillard, the Estate which he renamed Château Lynch. In 1779, Jean-Baptiste Lynch, Mayor of the city of Bordeaux in 1808, Count of the Empire in 1811, then peer of France in 1815, inherited the Château and entrusted its management to his brother, Michel Lynch, Knight and Mayor of Pauillac.

When Jean-Baptiste Lynch died in 1835, Château Lynch was divided into two: Châteaux Lynch-Moussas (Moussas being located in the place called Moussas) and Lynch-Bages (located in the place called Bages) thus appeared . Only Château Lynch-Moussas will keep the building. In 1847, Château Lynch-Moussas was bought by a family of Spanish wine merchants, the Vasquez. In 1855, it became the 5th Grand Cru Classé of the Médoc. This official classification of Bordeaux wines from 1855, organized by the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce, was established on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition in Paris, at the request of Napoleon III. The classification only concerns wines from the left bank as well as a Superior wine from Sauternes, Château d'Yquem, and a Pessac-Léognan, Château Haut Brion. This classification is still a guarantee of high quality today.

In 1919, Jean Castéja, owner of Châteaux Duhart-Milon, 4th Grand Cru Classé in Pauillac, Pichon-Longueville Baron, 2nd Grand Cru Classé in Pauillac, and Doisy-Védrines, 2nd Grand Cru Classé in Sauternes and Barsac, brought the Château Lynch-Moussas in the heritage of the Castéja family. At that time, the property covered more than 250 hectares, including 120 hectares of vines, forest and pasture. At the end of the 1960s, the sons of Jean Castéja, Pierre, Émile, Jean, and Édouard Castéja decided to share the family assets.

In 1970, Émile Castéja, married to Denise Borie and father of Chantal Preben Hansen and Philippe Castéja, took over the reins of the Château and undertook numerous works. From a property whose surface area of vines had been reduced to less than ten hectares, Émile Castéja replanted the entire vineyard to reach 60 hectares. He modernized the Château to restore its luster to this magnificent building, then the Chais to have a better winemaking tool. At that time, the Château became recognized for the quality of its wine.

In the 2000s, Philippe Castéja took over and intensified the changes and modernizations with, in particular, the arrival of Denis Dubourdieu and his team. It was during the 2001 vintage that Émile and Philippe Castéja launched the 2nd wine of Château Lynch-Moussas, Les Hauts de Lynch-Moussas, made from younger plots.

Since June 21, 2019, the Castéja family has owned and managed Château Lynch-Moussas for 100 years. On this occasion, the Castéja family organized the 2019 Flower Festival at Château Lynch-Moussas.

Vines : Vines are 25 years of age

Farming: By 2018, 50% of the vineyards were being farmed using organic and biodynamic methods. Starting in 2019, 100% of their vineyards were farmed organically. In 2022, Chateau Pedesclaux was certified as being 100% organic

Surface : The 49-hectare, Left Bank vineyard of Chateau Pedesclaux is planted to 59% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc
